Claudine and Dan are a very interesting couple. At first glance, they seemed quite different, when I first met them. However, after a bit of dialogue, it all made perfect sense. Both very humble people, Dan being the more reserved, and Claudine always with a smile.

The day started at the Docklands Hilton, where Claudine and her bridesmaids were preparing. The wedding, and the reception, took place in Middle Brighton. We even had the chance to disappear for an hour to the beach to make some special photographs.

Pre-wedding – Rebecca and Matthew

Rebecca and Matthew were a very interesting couple to work with.

The shoot was instigated by myself, primarily because I had some ideas that I wanted to put to the test. So I put out a feeler for couples willing to sit in for a shoot, and Rebecca and Matthew ended up working with us.

We shot at the Middle Brighton Beach, as well as in the Melbourne CBD. These guys were real champions throughout (even after we both got parking tickets at the beach). We tried several different things, we shot with a few different outfits, and all throughout the 3-4 hour shoot they were willing to try anything I asked of them.

Pre-wedding – Alven and Vitri

Alven and Vitri, both from Indonesia, have had a long, loooong relationship.

Eventually, they decided to tie the knot.

As per an increasingly popular trend, they wanted to do a pre-wedding shoot overseas, as this is material that will be shown at their actual wedding reception. To that end, over 2 days we went to various locations in the Melbourne CBD, and tried many different things. The most interesting part was our time in the Crown Casino, where we weren’t sure if we would be asked to leave, as we’d pretty much had a full studio shoot going.

In the end, another fantastic result.

Decorating our walls

Zoe and I decided to start shooting a series of photographs to hang on the walls of our new appartment.

The method is simple. We go on photo walks for this explicit purpose. On every walk we come back with 1 photograph to print. If it comes to the point where we have more photos than spots for frames, we start rotating the prints.

It will keep the walls fresh, and us interested.

A different kind of light painting

Our new apartment has beautiful white walls. Zoe and I both love the color, the look.

I also love that I can pretty much bounce flash from anywhere in the room.

So I had some fun with long exposures.

These shots were literally done with me setting the camera to a long exposure, and walking around the darkened living room firing off an SB900 at strategic locations on the walls. The idea was, of course, to simulate a lighting setup that I had planned for in my head.

Fun with light painting

This was an experiment in light painting.

The image was illuminated entirely with single LED flashlight. After several experiments, I came up with this light arrangement. You’ll notice a shutter speed of 15sec – that’s how long was needed to lay down this light by hand.
